The moment that the eye sees something of itself, suddenly its function has deteriorated...
When our vision becomes too focused on our selves, we lose clarity.

Hello. Yes, it is a window of the soul. But how is the soul that is the question. There are not two eyes a like. It is different in every human beings. But, yes, it is a teacher. It reflects the world we are in and that is the lesson to some one else. Through the eyes we are able to reach out and focus on our needs and on the needs of others. There in the eyes are every ones emotions. Through the eye we are able to reach others and fulfill their needs. Also the same for us in the same ways. Thank you for bringing up this important subject. Maria Rodriguez

For women the problem is often just the opposite. They are often so focused on others that they lose sight of themselves. It really is a question of balance. Many years ago I started Rosh Chodesh gatherings in Jerusalem for women, and it was not easy getting them out. It was hard for many women to understand that it was ok once a month to celebrate being women, and gaining strength from each other to continue giving 24/7. True there are also those who are too focused on themselves, but my experience has been that these women become very lonely women. Yes, indeed they lose clarity. Empowering women encourages them to use all their incredible talents both at home, in the community and in helping to provide for their families in creative ways. To my mind, though, it starts with knowing how to care for oneself. Not overindulgence but healthful living. It is truly a delicate balance. We need to do but we also need to do for ourselves without feeling guilty.

Dear Chana, You are right, when we are too focused on ourselves, known in the extreme as narcissism, we lose our humanity, meaning that quality which reaches out to others. To do this is actually to be "blind" in a deep and true sense, also. As in to be blind to the suffering in this world and not participate in healing with our own gifts.
The eye is a beautiful organ of sight, but surely the metaphor is not complete, as some of the most beautiful, "in" sightful individuals I know, are blind.
Sometimes, when clouds get in your eyes, as in the world, the countryside, we play with our imaginations, and we dance. That too, is about another kind of clouds.
I love it that eyes, is aurally of course also for the individual or the I. I think this is deeply significant, and I do it "with words".
It is said the eyes are the windows of the soul, and surely we see this, the beautiful, beautiful eyes, gifted to children, who are so imbued outwardly, with wonder.
